After a dominant first quarter, there was no looking back.
Central improved to 2-0 on the season, defeating Little Rock Mills, 53-42, in the annual Hoopin 4 Hoodies diabetes awareness event hosted at North Little Rock High School.
“We got off to a great start with 20-5 run in the first quarter," head coach Brian Ross said. "After that, our offense slowed down, but we showed a lot of toughness on the defensive end and were able to maintain our lead even while we weren’t playing our best."
Seniors AJ Williams, KD Arnett and Jakaylyn Jackson led the Tigers in scoring, combining for 29 points in a win over a Mills team that went 29-3 overall last year, appearing in back-to-back 5A state finals.
"It was a quality win against a team that has been one of the top programs in the state over the last few years," Ross said.
Other results from the Hoopin 4 Hoodies event include:
Watson Chapel def. Marianna, 45-36
eStem def. Benton, 63-46
Marion def. Bryant, 94-72
SW Christian def. FS Northside, 58-56
