Season is upon us, and there's no better way to start a new season than with Tiger Basketball's annual Black & Gold Night.
The Central Basketball team wowed the large crowd that filled the gym. The Tigers gave a high-flying preview of the upcoming season. Central spirit teams led off the night with performances followed by the Freshman Tigers scrimmage in which the Black team defeated Gold; the future is bright for Central Basketball.
Students, fans, and players made their way to the court to compete in the 3-point contest. Freshman guard Daijon McDaniel won the contest overall and for the boys, knocking down 8 triples in double OT against Lady Tiger senior Jordan Greenwood.
Following the Lady Tigers' scrimmage was the most anticipated event of the night... the slam dunk contest. Several high-flyers including seniors Jakaylyn Jackson, Ray McIntosh, Ky'lyn Arnett, and juniors Jeremiah Jones and Karter Allen competed in the event.
In the first round, Jackson's reverse dunk and Arnett's one-handed 360 got the crowd going, but it was Jones who stole the show with back-to-back perfect scores, one of which he jumped over two Tigers (Allen and Sajoel Smith).
Arnett took the crown in the finals with a one-handed windmill, jumping over his teammate Daniel Washington.
The Varsity Tigers scrimmage showcased the team's veterans as well as some young, talented new faces to the program. Black defeated the Gold, putting a cap on what was a night full of excitement for Tiger Basketball.
The Tigers home opener (AAA Benefit Game) is set for Friday, Nov. 9 at 5 p.m. against Monticello.
