Central Basketball is representing what it truly means to be a student-athlete.
The Tigers finished the first nine weeks with a 3.11 team GPA. From sophomores through seniors, 14 Tigers finished with a 3.0 GPA or higher.
"I am so proud of the commitment these young men made to improving their academics," head coach Brian Ross said. "We had weekly updates with each individual and their parents on their progress in all classes. As the first quarter went on, I noticed a confidence growing in their ability to perform in the classroom."
Additionally, 12 Tigers made increases in their GPA from the spring semester.
"I saw young men start to truly care about being excellent. One player went from a 2.0 to a 3.83 GPA, a 92 percent increase!" Ross said.
Tiger Basketball would like to thank Ms. Kim Burleson and her staff with the Tiger Academic Support Center (TASC) program, Central High School's free after-school tutoring program, for the time and effort they have put in with our student-athletes each week after school.
The coaching staff and players also want to thank Central's faculty, staff and administration for the support and encouragement they give to our students daily.
